Cherry-blossom viewing stroll to soothe my mental fatigue caused
by the coronavirus problem
                 No.276-Apr.7, 2020

The number of people infected with coronavirus still goes on increasing without stopping.

I couldn't have enjoyed pachinko for recreation because of having restrained myself
from outing for self-defense since the begining of March.
I've been withdrawing to my house for a month.
It's because there were postponment or cancellation of all the scheduled events like
my favorite golf and drinking-party, etc., and also recently I had increasing difficulty going
out at the request of voluntary restraint on outing by governors of the Tokyo area.

I picked weeds in the yard little by little and every day to kill my boredom, but don't have
any weeds to pick now.
Therefore, the yard became clean.
Nothing is so boring as freedom is bound.
When it is prolonged, we feel like being suppressed and then getting stressful.

The other day, I went for a cherry-blossom viewing stroll to the park nearby with my wife
to kill my boredom.
I didn't think I could view cherry blossoms so closely.

In the park where cherry blossoms are in full bloom, many children who don't know
what to do with themselves owing to school closure were playing soccer or with playground
equipment.
They might have been under a lot of stress!

The indoor play facility “Log house for children (Wanpaku house)” with park is under
2-week's temporary closure for prevention of coronavirus infection.
Some kids were playing with playground equipment with their parents.

Though we took a cherry-blossom viewing stroll for less than an hour, I was never healed
mentally and physically.
I hope the coronavirus goes away as soon as possible.

Out-of-season snow supported self-restraint on outing.
                                      No.275-Apr.2, 2020

The new coronavirus infection has still been in the pandemic state all over the
world and that has been steadily spreading day by day without stopping.
That is the same even in Japan and these days the infected people have rapidly
increased in and around Tokyo.
Especially, the exponential increase in Tokyo within the last few days terrify us, dosn't it?

The number of confirmed cases in Tokyo (As of April 1, 2020)

[Note] self-restraint on 〜 ; 〜の自粛、自主規制、 exponential ; 指数関数的な

number of confirmed cases ; 確認された症例数

In such a situation , on March 15, Tokyo governor Ms.Koike held an emergency press
conference and announced to Tokyo people as follows while showing a sense of crisis.
There is rising fear of overshoot (explosive increase of the infected people) and if this
trend continues, we could have lockdown (city blockade).
Please refrain from non-essential outing.

ockdown (city blockade) ; ロックダウン(都市封鎖)
  refrain from 〜 ; 〜を控える、やめる、non-essential outing ; 不要不急の外出

Furthermore, on March 27, Tokyo governor coordinated with 4 prefectual ones
(Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama and Yamanashi prefecture) to avoid overshoot and lockdown.
They delivered a joint message about cooperation request to inhabitant and company.
That might be a proper countermeasure because it's said the number of commuters and
students, etc. that flow into Tokyo from 4 neighboring prefectures is about 2.71
million/day.

[Note] coordinate with 〜 ; 〜と連携する、 deliver a message ; メッセージを出す
  inhabitant ; 住民、

So, people in the Tokyo metropolitan area came to refrain voluntarily from non-essential
outing this weekend.
Since department stores, theaters and large-scale commercial facilities, etc. around
the area were closed temporarily with this request, the streets were deserted.
I also refrain voluntariry from outing except shopping and withdraw to my house.

[Note] refrain voluntarily from 〜 ; 〜を自粛する、 voluntarily ; 自発的に、自分の意思で
  temporarily ; 臨時に、一時的に、 withdraw to one's house ; 家に引きこもる

As if to support the self-restraint on outing, out-of-season snow has been falling in the
large area of Kantokoshinetsu since last night.
Even in Tokyo and also here in Yokohama, it's been snowing since thiis morning as you
can see in the picture below.

To my surprise, it's said we have had snow cover of 1 cm or more in the later half of
March for the first time in 32 years.
It looks like cherry blossoms were surprised to see it and they feel too cold.

It was good timing for us to have snow on this day.
This might have ben blessed snow that helped our self-restraint on outing.
